Facebook..by David Choe

The graffiti muralist slash novelist David Choe "decorated" the Facebook headquarters with his art. You can watch him work and see some of the art in the videos below. It's quite an interesting venture and quite inspiring. I love how he varies the "spray" strokes with (what looks like) just his  fingers and makes some lines double, some softer and some darker.

Take a look at the variety of his amazing paintings below (and please google him and visit his website).  Some of his work is very Fafi-esque, especially when it comes to the whale elements in his Munko collection of vinyl figures.  I love graphic artists, especially ones that have a similar stylistic aesthetic to Fafi or David Choe.

Banksy

Since we're talking about street art, it is vital to mention Banksy. For a long time now, Mr. Banksy is the king of street art for me (now Vhils belongs to that category as well). I am going to go on a bit of a rant here, but to me the typical spray painted graffiti is not only tacky but disrespectful to the building it is vandalizing. The building was created by someone as well, it is someone's work of art just like the graffiti artist considers his "piece" to be a work of art. You wouldn't want someone to take a painting of let's say Picasso, and paint something over it, that's degrading to the work and effort the original artist spent creating his piece . To me that is what some graffiti artists do. They don't really show much respect for the building, hence the architect. Banksy on the other hand is a master of making a run-down building look amazing and interesting again. He not only makes it beautiful but at the same time puts  an important message across. I respect this sort of innovative creativity a lot. Here are some pieces from Banksy.

Aren't they great??? Some of them are really controversial. Especially the second one.

Vhils

I'm not a big fan of graffiti art but when I saw the work of Alexandre Farto a.k.a. Vhils, I was blown away.  Not only is this aesthetically pleasing and innovative, it also enhances the "beauty" of rundown buildings. He does not use the typical technique of a graffiti artist, he also manipulates  the "canvas" (for example in the form of peeling away) in the case of graffiti artists a wall to create the desired image. I love it. What do you think?
